Lot of varieties is found in pumpkins and the selection of the variety needed depends on the climate. In places where the season is short it is better to grow varieties which mature quickly or if others are chosen then they should be started early by keeping them indoors.
The work done by compost is a miracle. If compost is added before planting the soil is loosened and so the pumpkin roots grow easily. Compost helps the soil to retain moisture and compost can be used as mulch once the plants grow up.
Pumpkins need a lot of sunlight so they should be planted in places wherever the sun light is available at least six hours each day.
